About
Greetings! I'm an artist from Texas. I've illustrated kid lit and cover art for Arte Público Press, done editorial illustrations for City Arts Media, I-5 Publishing and others, created album covers, and concept art for animated feature pitches.
I was raised by animated television programs and movies in the 80's, 90's and 00's, so I love casts with weird anthropomorphic character designs you'd get in shows like Inspector Gadget, The Real Ghostbusters, The Mighty Orbots, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters and Invader Zim. I also fell in love with dreamy, fantasy backgrounds from movies like Unico, The Hobbit, All Dogs Go to Heaven, The Thief and the Cobbler, FernGully: The Last Rainforest, and The BFG. I get really excited by new series that explore female identity, because it's still so important for media to present positive, flawed and funny female role models from different ethnicities, backgrounds, cultures and ages, and for girls to feel like they can be themselves while also being empowered by the talents and interests they nurture. I also love shows that use familiar, comforting themes in inspiring ways; fantasy stories that young audiences really enjoy that are treated with enough emotional complexity that adult caretakers can be engaged.
I love old science fiction shows like Red Dwarf, the original Lost in Space and Doctor Who, kids shows with cool practical effects like Fraggle Rock, Thomas the Tank Engine, Bump in the Night and The Trap Door.
I'm always seeking ways to translate my hobbies into fuel for honing my skills. I make dollhouse dioramas as a hobby so that I can practice a hands on approach to prop design and backgrounds. I read a lot but it's mostly trying to gobble up Stephen King books and checking out new graphic novels (Sky Doll is my fave!). I enjoy caring for cactus and succulents, curating collections of dolls, books, toys, trains, clowns, vinyl records and monsters of various forms and sizes, and traveling whenever I can.
